Fisherman’s Guide: Where to Stay

Loch Lomond Lodges – Loch Lomond - Scotland

With an entire lake at your disposal, guests staying at Loch Lomond will never find themselves further than one hundred paces away from the lake, from their chalet doorstep! The shore line is a favourite haunt of game and coarse fishermen and is available exclusively to Loch Lomond guests. Friendly ghillies (instructors) can be hired to show novices the ropes or to accompany the more ambitious fisherman to the remote mountain lochs in the area. The loch is available for coarse fishing all year around and there is a specific salmon and trout season. The resort even has its own private fly-fishing instructor if you’re looking for lessons as a beginner or wanting to improve your skills.

Oakwood Lodges – Rhayader - Mid Wales

Our Oakwood lodges are situated near the small town of Rhayader within 22 acres of countryside. Rhayader is situated near the River Wye which is renowned for its trout and salmon. According to the Wye Foundation 4Ib fish are common in the upper river whereas 3Ibs is the average weight downstream.

Coarse fishermen will also be interested in Llyngwyn Lake where you’ll find sizable roach, pike and chub. Permits can be bought from the local newsagent in the Elan Valley for an affordable price.

Perthshire Lodges – Perthshire – Scotland

Our Perthshire Lodges are located next to Ben More and Loch Lubhair. There are 5 miles of river and game fishing available to Perthshire guests and fishing equipment can be hired from the visitor centre.

Loch Lubhair is great for both bank and boat fishing and has lots of brown trout and salmon. It is interesting to note that ‘Lubhair’ means ‘loch of the devious one’ so don’t be surprised if the fish are particularly evasive in this area! Prices start at £6 per rod and £25 for boat hire. Your host is very knowledgeable about the local area and will be happy to point you in the right direction of the best fishing spots.

Fistral Beach Apartments – Newquay - Cornwall

There is great fishing to be had in beautiful Cornwall. Our Fistral apartments overlook Fistral Beach which is great for fishing in the early morning or late at night after the crowds have disappeared. Nearby Holywell Bay is also a great fishing beach; the bass fishing is particularly good here. Our Beachcomber House overlooks Holywell Bay if you’d prefer to stay a little closer.  If you’d rather not go sea fishing why not try the Porth Reservoir? This beautiful area is the perfect spot for a relaxed days fishing and only 18 minutes’ drive from Fistral beach. Passes cost £6 for adults and £5 for children.
