These Highland lodges are based on Portnellan Estate in the Scottish Highlands, offering comfortable accommodation ranging from cosy log cabins to attractive cottages. Close to the historic village of Crianlarich, the looming mountain Ben More, and several sparkling lochs and rivers, Portnellan Estate is an ideal place for both outdoor pursuits and visiting many of the attractions and landmarks of Scotland. The location is great for hiking, cycling, fishing and boating, with mountain bikes for hire and fishing rods, boats and bike racks available to use for free.

The luxury lodges on Portnellan Estate can accommodate 1 to 8 people with everything you’ll need for a self-catering holiday. Find well-equipped kitchens and an on-site visitor centre where you can pick up essentials, buy fresh organic meat and hire a barbecue. The accommodation also has en-suite 4-piece bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and LCD TVs and DVD players for entertainment. Some properties have added extras such as saunas, spa baths, Sky TV and gaming consoles.

Visitor Centre and Shop

You’ll have access to an on-site visitor centre with local information and DVDs and board games that you can borrow. There’s also a small shop for purchasing essentials, and fresh organic meat available for purchase.

Local Lochs and Rivers

Portnellan Estate boasts a 5-mile stretch of water spanning river and loch, open for visitors to fish or explore. Rowing boats, fishing rods and Canadian canoes are provided, and bait and tackle can be purchased from reception.

Leisure Items for Hire

Mountain bikes can be hired from Portnellan Estate and come complete with helmets and emergency tool kits. If you find you’ve worked up an appetite cycling around the Highlands, there are also barbecues available to hire.

Luxurious Lodges

The range of self-catering Portnellan lodges come with fitted kitchens and en-suite 4 piece bathrooms (some including saunas and spa baths). For entertainment, TVs and DVD players come as standard. WiFi is also available.

Central Location

As well as being perfectly located for exploring Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, the central location of Portnellan Estate makes it a great home base for heading out to a variety of Scotland’s other attractions.

Things to Try

Loch Lomond Birds of Prey

With almost 40 birds here representing a range of species, including owls, eagles, falcons and hawks, the Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre is an amazing opportunity to get up close to these incredible creatures. Special experiences let you fly a hawk, handle owls, or become a keeper for a day.

Loch Lomond Seaplanes

If you’d like to see the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park from a really unique perspective, why not book a flight on board a seaplane tour over the striking Scottish landscape? Take off from the waters of Loch Lomond itself for an amazing sightseeing experience you’ll never forget.

Sea Life Loch Lomond

This aquarium, located on the banks of Loch Lomond, lets visitors explore the incredible range of life that lurks beneath the ocean waves. With the largest collection of sharks in Scotland, a tankful of friendly cownose rays, a friendly family of otters, and more, it’s a perfect family day out.

Treezone Loch Lomond Shores

This adrenaline-fuelled aerial adventure course, suitable for anyone aged 7+, sees visitors take a thrilling treetop trip across ziplines, balance beams and swinging vines, high above the ground. Not for the faint-hearted or those who are afraid of heights, but still a fantastic way to spend a few hours.

For Food and Drink

Stop off at the Artisan Café on the way to Tyndrum for a lovely light lunch or refreshing coffee or tea with homemade cakes. In Tyndrum itself, the Real Food Café offers award-winning fish and chips (including a gluten-free version) in addition to an assortment of other delicious menu items.

For Attractions

The main attraction of Portnellan Estate is of course the glorious Highland scenery that surrounds it! One particular recommendation is the nearby Falls of Falloch, a gorgeous waterfall that’s a popular local beauty spot. Don’t miss the ‘Woven Sound’ art installation that offers a new perspective on the falls.

For Activities

Portnellan Estate is just opposite the Ben More trailhead, so if you’re an experienced hiker it’s an ideal location for starting a walk up Ben More. Those who enjoy more relaxing pursuits will find that there are a range of excellent golf courses within the national park, offering great golfing and stunning views.
