Riverside Cottage is part of a set of properties located within a converted water mill in Syleham, situated in an idyllic location alongside the River Waveney on the border between Norfolk and Suffolk, around 7 miles from the market town of Diss. With space for up to 5 guests, it's perfect for a waterside holiday.
The 3-bedroom Riverside Cottage is a really unique property which makes an ideal destination for those who love being alongside the river, opening onto the banks and with fishing rights included. It's a great romantic location or a superb holiday spot for a group of friends, with the wonderful surroundings of a conservation area. It also makes an ideal cycling base, situated on National Cycle Network route 30.
It has a private jetty, a four person rowing boat and a small, private island accessed via a wooden bridge. Visitors to the garden include swans, deer, kingfishers, ducks and numerous other bird species. Fish include chubb, pike and perch. The river runs the full length of the garden and along the bank are bulrushes, water iris, lilies and reeds. There is a public house within walking distance, The Old Kings Head with origins dating back to the 14th century and has a bar and restaurant.
Riverside Cottage is situated in a beautiful part of Suffolk, not far from the border of Norfolk. There are some interesting small towns and villages to visit along with a number of nature reserves in the local area cared for by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust . The Waveney Valley is home to a number of wetlands and fens with a diverse range of plant and animal life.
There are a number of excellent pubs and restaurants to visit locally. The Fox and Goose in Fressingfield serves delicious food and where possible, uses locally sourced ingredients. If you fancy a real treat The Leaping Hare at Wyken Hall is worth a visit. Besides the cafe and restaurant, walking through the gardens gives you an opportunity to build up an appetite or venture further afield and explore the ancient woodland and the vineyard.
Having been out and about exploring the area, you will have a welcome return to Riverside Cottage to relax in the peaceful surroundings. Whether you choose to have a cosy drink in front of the wood burning stove or mess about on the river you can escape the everyday and experience a little bit of tranquility.

River frontage with fishing rights. Fishing from the river bank or boat. A rod licence is usually required (please note that between 15th March and 15th June the season is closed for coarse fishing).

Please note that due to the riverside frontage, we can only accept children over 9 years of age and a baby in his/her own moses basket at Riverside Cottage.
