Myrtle Cottage, Friston, nr Saxmundham, Suffolk
Friston (near Saxmundham), Suffolk
Myrtle Cottage, located in the welcoming village of Friston in Suffolk (around 3 miles from the town of Saxmundham), offers an appealing blend of contemporary and classic, with the looks of a classic cottage giving way to more modern and spacious living areas.
This one-of-a-kind property can sleep up to 4 guests in its 2 bedrooms, who can enjoy the superb combination of traditional charm and contemporary roominess. In appearance, Myrtle Cottage is a traditional Suffolk dwelling which then opens up into a cosy, contemporary sitting room and then to an unexpectedly spacious, modern kitchen/dining area.
With a large, enclosed, terraced garden at the back, Myrtle Cottage’s front garden was conceived by a renowned landscape design firm, thereby continuing the contemporary and distinct feel of the property as a whole.
A perfect mix of period features, contemporary fittings and stylish furniture make Myrtle Cottage the perfect location for a romantic get-away, for a journey of musical wonderment at Aldeburgh Music or a place which to bring two or three children for a beach and cycling holiday on the Suffolk coast.
Friston is a small village situated between Saxmundham and Aldeburgh. The village has it’s own pub, The Old Chequers Inn within walking distance of Myrtle Cottage. A little further afield, Snape has several pubs serving excellent food. Snape is also home to the Maltings, now the world-renowned music centre hosting a festival and proms each year along with a wide variety of other events including a Food and Drink Festival.
Aldeburgh is a 10-minute drive from Friston and besides the beach has a busy high street with a number of independent shops. There are some excellent restaurants serving fresh fish and local produce or try the fish and chips which seem to taste even better eaten on the beach.
There are numerous walks from Friston including accessing the Sailors’ Path, which joins Aldeburgh and Snape meandering along the Alde Estuary. The peace and quiet of the area provides many opportunities for bird and wild life watching. The area is within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Having had a busy day exploring the Suffolk countryside, head back to Myrtle Cottage where you can light the fire and enjoy relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. Or if the weather suits, enjoy a glass of something cold in the beautiful garden.
