Lovely Cottage, North Creake, nr Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
North Creake (near Wells-next-the-Sea), Norfolk
Located in the attractive Norfolk village of North Creake, just over 6 miles from the port town of Wells-next-the-Sea, Lovely Cottage thoroughly lives up to its name, being a cosy and welcoming holiday home with superb views across the nearby countryside,
Sleeping up to 4 people, this delightful holiday property is ideally situated on a quiet village road and offers rural views galore. It's an easy walk to the local pub and only a short drive from both Burnham Market and the stunning North Norfolk coastline.
Fully refurbished, and stylishly furnished, Lovely Cottage fits its name perfectly. The middle cottage in a row of three, this character property offers a peaceful getaway for a small family, a couple looking for a romantic escape or two or three friends who might like to spend their time walking, cycling or birdwatching - the location of the cottage is perfect for all of these activities, along with many more.
On the first floor there are two bedrooms (king size and single with trundle), which are reached by traditional Norfolk winder stairs (with handrail), which may be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. The single bed can be converted into two singles or made up as a king size option, but this is really only suitable for one adult. On the ground floor, the sitting room is a lovely place to relax at the end of a busy day. Turn on the television, light the wood burner if you are chilly and enjoy supper 'at home' looking over the fields. In the summer, take a seat on the bench at the front of the cottage and enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down. The south facing cottage garden is found over the lane and is perfect for a picnic lunch.
If you feel like eating out, take a stroll down the village road and you will find a good meal at The Jolly Farmers. A short drive away is the award-winning Creake Abbey cafe and delicatessen which is open for most of the day. A farmers' market (nominated as "Norfolk's Food Market" in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards 2015) is held here on the first Saturday of each month, and is very popular with both locals and holidaymakers. The village hall hosts "Cinema in the Creakes" - a monthly film night, when a glass of wine is included in the price!
North Creake is an attractive village, three miles south Burnham Market. The village has a traditional pub, the Jolly Farmers, and the old forge which is now run as a living museum of Blacksmith’s art. North Creake is well positioned for exploring the whole North Norfolk coast where you will find endless sandy beaches, walking opportunities and an abundance of wildlife. The River Burn runs through the village, flowing into Burnham Overy Town and Burnham Overy Staithe and on the edge of the village you will find Creake Abbey, a 12th Century Augustine Abbey that was once a lower powerhouse, holding much wealth and influence. Now under the stewardship of English Heritage, a visit to present day Creake Abbey is very different experience and it now comprises of an excellent farmer’s market which takes place on the first Saturday of each month, a popular cafe and delicatessen, an excellent hairdressers, gallery and country store. Wonderful walks through the open countryside can start from the Creake Abbey grounds, across the farmland, byways and bridleways, so don’t forget your walking boots or bikes. Burnham Market has a central green surrounded by 18th century Georgian houses. You are spoilt for choice with places to eat - the well known Hoste hotel, Socius restaurant, No.Twenty9 and 20 North Street - where you can sample some of the best local cuisine. With bookshops, Humble Pie delicatessen, Gurney's superb fishmongers, Howells butcher’s and numerous galleries, boutiques, jewellers and home ware stores to browse you can very easily fill your day and shopping basket. The nearest beaches are at Brancaster, Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea, with many more to explore further afield.
