Walking route

Follow the 20-mile Ullswater Way circular walking route through the park and around Ullswater to take in the sights. For a shorter walk, ride an open-top tour bus or take a boat cruise for part of the journey.

Nearby village

It’s just a 20-minute walk to the local village of Pooley Bridge (a cottage is also available for rent here). See historic buildings, enjoy pubs, tearooms, and restaurants, and take a ride across Ullswater on the ferries.

Ullswater Steamers

What better way to see the sights of Ullswater, England’s most beautiful lake, than by taking a relaxing cruise on the deck of a gorgeous heritage boat? Ullswater ‘Steamers’ provide a fantastic ferry service around the lake which connects some of the most popular locations and walking routes.

The Ullswater Way

Take in all the sights of Ullswater and its scenic surroundings with the 20-mile Ullswater Way footpath which stretches the full distance around the lake and passes right through Waterfoot Park itself. This path also makes an excellent jumping-off point to join other walking trails in the area.

Watersports and sailing

Those keen to take to the water of Ullswater under their own power will find plenty of opportunities to do so, with the main pier at nearby Pooley Bridge making a good starting point. Go canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding on the lake, or sign up at a nearby sailing centre for lessons or boat hire.

Aira Force Falls

Take a 15-minute drive along the Ullswater shore and pay a visit to the beautiful Aira Force waterfall, where water rushes down a 65-foot drop from Aira Beck. Marvel at the majesty of nature then make your way up the woodland trail to the summit of Gowbarrow Fell to take in the spectacular views.

The village of Pooley Bridge is less than a mile from Waterfoot Park and has a variety of food and drink options on offer. Particularly recommended are Granny Dowbekin's, which offers a wide-ranging menu including vegan and gluten-free dishes, the 1863 Restaurant, and the Sun Inn.

For Attractions

There’s plenty of places to visit in the local area and further afield. The beautiful Dalemain Estate is just a couple of miles away, with a gorgeous Grade I-listed country house and historic gardens. Beatrix Potter fans will also want to visit the Peter Rabbit and Friends shop in nearby Keswick.
