Dinosaur Isle museum
So many prehistoric reptiles have been found on the Isle of Wight, it's known as the Dinosaur Capital of the UK. Visit the Dinosaur Isle museum and learn all about these ancient creatures and their history. You can even take a guided fossil walk and see what you can find for yourself.
Isle of Wight Zoo
For ferocious felines and other fascinating creatures, you can't beat the Isle of Wight Zoo. This amazing attraction has a particular focus on tigers, but you'll also get to meet lions, Madagascan lemurs, monkeys, and a range of other mammals, birds, bugs, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
Isle of Wight Railway
What better way to take in the gorgeous scenery of the Isle of Wight than with a trip on a traditional steam train, with the award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway? You can hop on board at Havenstreet Station, which is an easy 15-minute drive from The Lakes Rookley.
Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary
Providing a home for unwanted donkeys, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary is open to the public to meet and interact with its residents, who live in 55 acres of countryside and are cared for by over 50 volunteers. It's free to visit, too, though donations are welcomed.

For fantastic food in a traditional pub atmosphere, head to the Chequers Inn, just a mile from The Lakes Rookley. If all the coastal scenery has you in the mood for some casual seafood, visit Stotesbury's Fish and Chips in Newport, which is just a 10-minute drive from the resort.
Head to Blackgang Chine, the oldest amusement park in the UK, for a day out filled with fun, thrills and imagination. For a more sedate way to spend your time, visit the gorgeous historic Nunwell House and Gardens, explore the beautiful gardens and take a guided tour of the house.
Keen walkers will relish the chance to explore the island's rugged coastline along the Isle of Wight Coastal Footpath. Or you can get up close and personal with an amazing bird of prey experience at Haven Falconry - meet eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and vultures face-to-face.
