Landal Gwel an Mor is a 5-star self-catering holiday resort in Portreath that recently won the VisitEngland Award for Excellence. Set in 100 acres of grounds on an elevated position overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it has a total of 114 self-catering lodges.

Many of the  luxury lodges are now currently occupied free-of-charge by NHS staff who are self-isolating away from more vulnerable family members who may be considered particularly high risk. The lodges are also available free-of-charge to some of the formerly retired NHS doctors and nurses who have been called back by the government to help with the pandemic. All the lodges are self-contained and have everything needed, including cooking equipment, dishwashers and washer-dryers.

The resort is near to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro (Treliske) and the holiday resort staff who are working to help our NHS heroes are all volunteers. The resort is working closely with the NHS to ensure strict safety procedures for everyone.

Holiday Parks Closed during Pandemic

In line with government guidelines to minimise the spread of Covid-19, holiday parks have recently closed their doors to the public. All the communal areas of the resort that are usually buzzing with happy holidaymakers, the restaurant, bar, heated indoor swimming pool, wellbeing spa, tennis courts and gym are currently closed. Staff at the resort are working closely with the NHS to ensure the safety of all their new guests who are working long hours on the frontline of this international emergency.

Holiday parks and resorts are often fully booked at Easter but they will not be open again for holidaymakers until the government issues an all-clear.

The free accommodation at Landal Gwel an Mor is only open to NHS doctors and nurses at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, including those coming to the area to help on the Treliske Covid-19 support team.

The park is known for its support in the community and organises an Annual Emergency Services Award event in recognition of the local emergency services. They also offered firefighters and paramedics from London's Grenfell Tower disaster free holidays with their families.

The team at Landal Gwel an Mor is encouraging all currently closed holiday parks with individual caravans and lodges to help the NHS in this way.
