Cropton, North Yorkshire
The rugged remoteness and grandeur of North Yorkshire’s landscape has proved to be so popular with people who have stayed at Forest Holidays’ first site at Keldy so a new, equally stunning, one has opened at Cropton Forest.
Also on the edge of the North York Moors, Cropton has 21 Silver Birch cabins sleeping between 4 and 6 people. The timber cabins, some of which are dog-friendly, are made from sustainable wood, and have private verandas for al fresco eating if its warm, huge picture windows for admiring the view, flatscreen TVs with DVD players and blissfully comfortable beds.
At Cropton the forest is a mixture of densely populated woodland and open glades so it suits people of all ages and levels of fitness, from those wanting to stroll gently whilst discovering the flora and fauna along the way to more energetic types. Those wanting a more lively and strenuous holiday or short break can cycle, go horse riding, pony trekking or hiking on the moors and mountain bikes are available for hire along with tag-alongs for the children.
The on site Forest Rangers also organise different activities that can inspire you and the family to discover and understand more about the habitats around you. These sessions include Dusk Watch, Night Vision, Young Explorers, Amazing Animals and Into the Wild. Both Cropton and Keldy are 24 miles from the seaside at Scarborough and only seven miles from Pickering where there’s a leisure centre with pool, shops and, best of all, the wonderful North York Moors Steam Railway. The Forestry Commission Visitor Centre and Go Ape! Centre are 13 miles away.
