Deerpark is near Liskeard in the south west of Cornwall, a region famed for its picturesque fishing villages like Polperro and Looe (both are nearby), its sandy bays and smugglers coves. You’ll find the log cabins hidden away in a wooded valley, deep within the Forestry Commission Estate and is on the site of an old gunpowder mill.
Deerpark’s 45 stylish log cabins are cleverly arranged in a stepped fashion so that most get the best views of the calm waters of the mill pond and the tall conifers reflected in it. The cabins are warm and cosy with modern kitchens and bathrooms and blissfully comfortable beds. The most luxurious log cabins among them come with hot tubs and wood burners too.
The site really does offer something for everyone because it combines the best of woodland and water. You’ll discover wildfowl on the millpond and wildlife in the trees and if you want to learn more about the local habitat, the on site Forest Rangers can take you on a variety of adventures and walks such as Dusk Watch, Forest Survival, Young Explorers and Into the Wild. If a very active holiday is your style and depending on the time of year that you visit, you can go pony trekking, horse riding, fishing, sailing, windsurfing and waterskiing. There are also mountain bikes – with tag-alongs for the children – available for hire and a great children’s play area.
Deerpark has a Forest Retreat meeting place where you can book ranger tours and active adventures, collect local information, buy essential groceries and a bottle of wine and even order newspapers, breakfast packs and ready made meals.
